Our classic somersault bar features bars at three heights, making it suitable for children large and small as well as different skill levels. The somersault bar is ideal for various activities, as in addition to doing somersaults, children can use the bars for hanging from and for incorporating into their role-play and competitions. It can also be used as a place to gather and hang out.
Somersaults and other acrobatics that involve rotating 360° are particularly good for training the vestibular system in the inner ear which ensures that the body can keep its balance and maintain its posture when exposed to gravitational forces. The more opportunities children have for moving about in all directions, the stronger their spatial intelligence becomes as well as their ability to keep their balance, avoid falls and stay focused, which is good for their further development.
Somersault bars come in a variety of materials. The choice of materials can have a significant bearing on safety and the amount of time you need to spend maintaining the play equipment. LEDON always uses low-maintenance materials, so you don’t have to worry about rotting or cracking wood, or whether it needs painting or treating. Our low-maintenance somersault bars can therefore be left outside for many years and in all kinds of weather without compromising safety in any way.

It is vital that the somersault bar is at the right height for children to train and develop their skills. A bar that is too low may mean that children are not sufficiently challenged and therefore lose interest, and conversely, a bar that is too high can be too much of a challenge and undermine their confidence. A stand which has bars at several heights is therefore a good solution if you want to ensure that children can start off on a low bar and work their way upwards as they train and improve their control.
In addition to the above-mentioned benefits for children’s motor skills, using the somersault bar and stand can help to prepare children for school. Every time a child does a somersault, their eyes have to adjust to being upside down, and this is a good exercise for strengthening the eye muscles and improving children’s reading abilities. If children have to concentrate too hard to follow the lines on the page, they will be unable to follow the story itself, i.e. better eye control means better reading skills. At the same time, a somersault is also a bilateral coordination exercise. In other words, an exercise that requires both hands to work together. Training hand coordination like this is also relevant in the classroom, for example when needing to hold sheets of paper and cut out shapes with scissors.

Children use their major muscle groups and strengthen their gross motor skills when playing on the play equipment. Gross motor skills are vital for both their basic motor development as well as their fine motor skills.

When seesawing, playing on the swings and balancing, children train their vestibular sense. This has a bearing on their language and basic motor development as well as their movement and concentration. Children with a strong vestibular sense are more open to new challenges.

Children use their whole body to keep their balance and coordinate their movements on the play equipment. Balance and coordination are fundamental to children’s physical and cognitive development, and it is therefore important that they are stimulated from an early age.
